Play writing Scene 1/ 2

FLASHBACK:

Scene 1:

Rita: Back in my day we never had technolgy like you have today, we had to go make our own fun, We never stayed in doors we were always out-side playing, we had to be home before the street lights came on.  But when my Mother died i had to take on the role of being Mother, I had to look after the little ones cook clean, and babysit.

John: Why did you have to do all of that Mum? Why couldn't one of your sisters do it?

Rita: Because i wanted to and because they had all gone away, moved away, My Father was around much to help out, But in them days it was wrong for the Father to look after the children without the Mother being around, So we all got put into care, Until we were 16 or older.

Joe: What happened after you left carehome?

Rita: I went and got the the others and started to look after them, because i did not want us all separated because we had no one else but each other.

Jack: What about money?

Rita: We didn't have much money but we got by as best as we could.

John: Where did you go?

Rita: We ended up in Brighton in a small flat, Above a shop.

Joe: What happened after that, Like what happened to you all?

Rita: Well we just to buy as much as we could without the people we needed the most, we all helped each other.

Scene 2:

John: Whats did you do for food and the little bits?

Rita: We used to steel the food we didn't have, but if we couldn't have it we didn't have it, we went with out.  But don't forget things were cheaper in them days.

Joe: Did you ever get caught? By the police for steeling?

Rita: Once or Twice but because they new we didn't have any parents they didn't really do much about it they just told us off and said not to do it again.

Jack: Maybe i should try that.

Rita: Don't even try it, You will never get away with it now a days.

Joe: But Why did you want to go to Brighton?

Rita: Because it had everything we needed, Shops, Seaside, That is all we needed as a little family.

John: What happened when you all started to grow up and have a life of your own?

Rita: We all stayed with each other for ages, but when we were all old enough to get jobs it was easier because we could get the stuff we always wanted, But things changed prices went up so the more money we had coming in the better it was for all of us.

Jack: Did some of them move out?

Rita: the older ones moved out but the younger ones i still looked after because they still needed guiding, though life, teaching them right from wrong.

Joe: But they should of stayed and helped you because surley you had your own problems as well?

Rita: Yes but it wasn't like it is now, if you grow up you left home and nothing was said about it, where as now you would stay and help out because its what you do, back then you left home and left the mum or sister in my case to bring up the little ones.

John: I suppose but still it must of been hard on you to bring up everyone all by yourself without help?

Scene 3:

Rita: I'm not saying it wasn't hard because it was but at the same time it was fun, and i learnt a lot of what i know now, i wouldn't be the person i am today if non of this happened.

Jack: But why didn't you just leave?

Rita: Because i felt like i had the responsibilty to look after my siblings, I couldn't sit back and watch them get taken away i didn't want us all to split up i wanted us all to be together, i knew we would be split up for a while but i wanted us all back together because that is where we belonged together.

Joe: Wow thats really made a difference on how they act towards you because they all come to you when they are having troubles.

John: Yes mum thats really cool, that you put your life on hold for your siblings, i don't no many people that would do that.

Jack: Mum your really nice for doing that because not many people would people would just let them get spilt up.

Rita: I know but i had to do it because over wise i wouldn't know who they are today and no one knows where we would of ended up. We could of been anywhere, not together.

Joe: Thats really nice mum, you did not have to do that for your siblings.

Rita: I know but i felt like i had to, because  no one else was going to do it.

John: But if you felt like you had no choice why didn't you ask for help.

Rita: Because I wanted to see if I could do it myself without help.
