Electra Workshop

In class we did a workshop Percific to Greek Theatre Electra is a tragady play wrote by Sophocles, The date is not known to when this was wrote. Electra is set in the city of Argos, many years after the Trojan war, The story is based around the character of Electra and her vengeance for her fathers death, she belevies that her brother Orestes will come back and kill her mother Clytemnestra, and step father Aegisthus.

At the begging of the workshop, we walked into the room and there were masked placed in different places on the floor these masked reprensent different emotions, We had to walk around the room and get into groups of two or three, we then had to talk to each other about one of the masks we found and liked we had to give the mask a name and treat it like a real person with emotions, we then had to put the mask on and become that person.

We than had to get into another pair and work on our character, we then went of and started to act out a section from Electra, This was the section where Electra meets her brother Orestes and they start to plot to kill her mother and step father.
We started by miming this out and then we performed it with speech, at first we did this without masks on and then we performed it with masks.

I found this easier with masks because you can hide your real self behind the mask.
