Lesson 1 Costume

What is Costume?
Costume is destictive to people from different time periods, Different class, It can be a particular style of clothing worn to represent a character.

Theatrical Costume?
One of the most common places you see Costume is in the Theatre,Film, and Telivison. Theatrical costume can help an Actor portry a character's Age, Gender, Class, Personality, Ethnicity. This also helps portry what time period it is, And what time of day, The season, Time of year.

National Costume?
A reginal costume that expresses local identity, Different Cultures, Pride, for example The Scotsman wears a kilt.

Why do we have Costume?
We have Costume to represent different calutres and different time periods, Also to help portry different chacrcaters, What time of day it is what season it is, If it was warm you might wear shorts and a vest top, Whereas if its cold you would wear jeans and a jumper and a coat. Also to show Class and wether someone has power or not because if they do their costume would be more smart and tidy whereas if they didn't have much power they would have messy cloths and look kinda dirty.

We got given this wig and got asked to come up with a short story line that we could use this with, So my group came up with the story of someone was at the hairdressers and they hairdresser messed up the hair, But the costmer loved the purple hair.

We also got given a boot and asked to do the same thing come up with a short story and work around this boot, So my group came up the story line that everything had to go in one shop and we were fighting over this boot.

We got given this Bowler hat and asked to do the same thing so My group came up with the idea of someone getting married as this is the best we could do with the time we were given.

The benifits of this task we that we could realise that a small bit of costume could have a big impact on a whole performance, and we had to improvise so it improved these skills. It also gave us a chance to work out as a group what we could do in such a small amouth of time.
