The Bugsy Project

Today we got handed the Bugsy Script, I have had past knowlange of Bugsy by watching the film, This means that i know the chacters very well.

When it comes to costume desgin, i am considering desgining Tullahs and Bugsy costume, i have chosen these because i think it is easier to protry these chatacters in a costume because they are different but the same in a sence that Tullash is very girly and giliz and glamor. Whereas Busgy is very much typical guy that every girl wants to be with and every guy wants to be because he has the charm and hes very genuin whole the whole thing.

Tullah:
  • Blacks, Greys
  • 1920's ere
  • lots of sparkle
  • Flapper
  • Sexy

Bugsy:

  • Suited
  • White
  • Bow tie
  • Stylish
  • Well dressed to show power/Status

Fat Sam

  • White shirt
  • Braces
  • Black hat
  • Black Trousers
  • Cigare

Mini Project, Childish Royal

Kim asked us to think about:
  1. How old they are?
  2. Socail Status?
  3. Where from?
  4. Contribution to the story?
  5. Why are they there?
  6. Main character? Side character?
  7. Gender?
  8. Personality?

Childish Royal: We have created a back story to help us develop the character in more detail and give us a bit more of an insight to what we will need and will need to use in order to prostrate this character of a childish royal.

The back story:
William Smith is a 10 year old Prince from France who's father, the King dies in a battle Unexpectedly which only leave William to become the air to the throne. William does not understand his responsibilities as he is too young and wants to continue having a normal childhood. His mother died in childbirth so the only mother figure he has had in his life is his nanny who has brought him up from the beginning. William likes to mess around and the idea of him becoming King does not impress him at all.  William's Personality is he is still a child and dose not want to take over yet, He still wants to play child games and  be a child.

This is a classic crown as it is gold and its looks very bold and child like, This is like Williams personailty, and it shows his age.

This does not go with his backstory because this is a dark crown and the aurdince would not see this a child friendly, because of the colours and the shape of it.

This would really not work with the story as it is very abstracte in a way that is not really child friendly because again of the colours and shape and size. it may also be a sharp and hurt the actor or a member of the aurdience.

If i ahd to chose between all of these crowns i would chose the first crown because it is a classic crown and easily reconsiable by the aurdience and it is also very child friendly because of the colours and shapes on it.

Lesson 1 Costume

What is Costume?
Costume is destictive to people from different time periods, Different class, It can be a particular style of clothing worn to represent a character.

Theatrical Costume?
One of the most common places you see Costume is in the Theatre,Film, and Telivison. Theatrical costume can help an Actor portry a character's Age, Gender, Class, Personality, Ethnicity. This also helps portry what time period it is, And what time of day, The season, Time of year.

National Costume?
A reginal costume that expresses local identity, Different Cultures, Pride, for example The Scotsman wears a kilt.

Why do we have Costume?
We have Costume to represent different calutres and different time periods, Also to help portry different chacrcaters, What time of day it is what season it is, If it was warm you might wear shorts and a vest top, Whereas if its cold you would wear jeans and a jumper and a coat. Also to show Class and wether someone has power or not because if they do their costume would be more smart and tidy whereas if they didn't have much power they would have messy cloths and look kinda dirty.

We got given this wig and got asked to come up with a short story line that we could use this with, So my group came up with the story of someone was at the hairdressers and they hairdresser messed up the hair, But the costmer loved the purple hair.

We also got given a boot and asked to do the same thing come up with a short story and work around this boot, So my group came up the story line that everything had to go in one shop and we were fighting over this boot.

We got given this Bowler hat and asked to do the same thing so My group came up with the idea of someone getting married as this is the best we could do with the time we were given.

The benifits of this task we that we could realise that a small bit of costume could have a big impact on a whole performance, and we had to improvise so it improved these skills. It also gave us a chance to work out as a group what we could do in such a small amouth of time.

Electra set

Ideas for the flooring:

I like the idea of putting leaves on the floor to show that we are outside and it goes with the colour theme it
Also shows that it is warm but cold this would go with
the whole theme of the play because it warm in parts
but also very cold when Electra talks to her mum
she is very cold.
but when she talks to her sister and brother she is very warm
towards them.

Electra Set

Ideas for the set:

I like the colour of this door because it goes with the colour theme. It also looks very old fashioned and this is look we are going for. This door is also very Large this would help with not struggling to get in/out of the door.

I like this door because it is Very large and this could show royalty because of how high the door is and how big it is. I also like the colour o this door because of how dark it is.

Rush Review

Akram Khan Rush Review:
Rush is a Dance sequence of 3 people dancing it is a contemporary dance phase. 3 people are performing at different speeds thought out the phase. It is a form of Indian classical dace called 'Khatak'. The phase explores spatial freedom and associated with the unpredictable journey of falling out of a plane. When they used different Dynamics it made it more visually pleasing, On the contrast there were moment of stillness in the piece this makes you feel more aware as they were one minuite going rerally fast and then they just stop. The dancer had alot of control over their body this can be seen when they forse for 10 seconds. this also shows they have good stamina.
The dance its self had alot of canon, Unison, And solo moments. the effect of canon shows that the dancers have got commincation with each other, The use of unison this shows that they are one big group of people not just danceing alone, the effect unison had on me is being aware of timeing and dancers around me in my own performance. There were times when only one dancer would be performing this was intresting because it showed that they were also very alone, and their individual skills. The use of repatation and imitation was intresting at first however i felt as if it became tedious as i was seeing the same thing over again.
Overall i thought it was really good how they used the different types of dance techniqe to show a moving piece. It was very intents to watch because of the rapied movments, However they could of not used repatation as much as they did.

My own opinion:
I wasn't sure to start with when we first saw the video i thought that it would be boring. But it was actually really good fun. it also challenged us. I also liked it because i got to work with people that i didn't normally work with and it got me talking to everyone in the class.

Greek theatre

The design:

The design of Greek Theatre is like arena shaped this is because the seats were really high up and because they did not have a mircophone they had to shout the words and it was easier to hear the actors so they did not strain their voices.

The chours:

The chours is a vital part of Greek theatre and normally is made up of 15 men the role of the Chours was to sing and dance in the orchestra as part of the traig action.

How the theatre works

Production house:
The Sealight theatre is a production house because it is a college theatre and the work that is shown in the theatre is all produced in within the theatre. The Sealight theatre does not bring in any work it creates and puts on all its own work. Everything is created within the theatre e.g Costumes, props. Also the National Theatre is a Production house because it puts on its own work.

Receiving house:
All the theatres on the West end are Receiving houses because they bring in shows that are really good and make the most money and that are touring around. These threaders do not produce the work that is shown in the theatre. Also the Connaught Theatre in Worthing in a Receiving house because again in choses the shows that are shown inside the theatre and what they think will bring in the most money.
